Grooming requirements for an aussie call for regular brushing weekly with a 2 time a year full brush out of undercoat for the fall and spring change of coat. Supplement with Life's Abundance Skin & Coat Formula for Dogs and Cats to help keep your dogs coat silky and mat free.

A comprehensive nutritional supplement, Skin & Coat Formula for Dogs and Cats addresses skin and coat health in a holistic way. Unlike ordinary skin and coat supplements that contain fatty acids and a few other ingredients, this formula supplies a whole host of additional nutrients that work together to address the complex factors that play a role in supporting skin and coat health. The nutrients featured in this formula can yield several health-promoting benefits. Here are just some of the highlights of how this supplement works …

In addition to skin-nourishing omega-3 fatty acids, this formula contains vitamin E and zinc, which help increase the effectiveness of the fatty acids.
The vitamin A in this formula helps cells to grow and supports the naturally-occurring layer of oil on the skin, helping to keep it healthy and supple.
This formula also contains vitamin C, which supports healthy collagen development.
And to top it off, our new and improved Skin & Coat now contains seven different B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, d-pantothenic acid, niacin, pyridoxine, B12 and biotin), all of which work with the other nutrients in this formula to aid in the many complex chemical reactions required for healthy skin and coat.

If your companion animal’s skin or coat is less than perfect, try a bottle of  Skin & Coat Formula with a comprehensive line-up of nutrients that work together to help support healthy skin and a shiny coat.

The Australian Shepherd’s assumed area of origin can be misleading because it is not actually an Australian Breed. Although the exact details of the dog’s history is unclear, we do know that they made their way to the United States, from Australia, where they were used to herd sheep. The Australian Shepherd is still used as a sheep herder and can be seen winning herding trials. Great information about the breed is available at http://www.asca.org/

The Australian Shepherd is a bold, loving, smart and energetic member of the Herding Group. These dogs have an athletic build and are medium in size. With amazing agility and a powerful body, they can work hard all day without sacrificing speed or stamina. Australian Shepherd dogs were bred to guard livestock and to this day maintains the genetic drive to herd. Like all working breeds, the Aussie has considerable energy and drive and usually needs a job and loves to be active but are also very loving dogs who make wonderful pets.

They have almond-shaped eyes, with variety in the eye color. Aussie eyes may be amber, brown, hazel, green, or blue; and they may have two different colored eyes.

Taking Care of Your Australian Shepherd
A busy Aussie is a happy Aussie!
This breed should have vigorous exercise on a daily basis, both physically and mentally. And with its ease of training ability and high intellectual levels, the Australian Shepherd is the perfect candidate for advanced obedience and agility training. These dogs thrive on human contact and are not meant for sitting alone in a house all day. This breed does best with an active family in a suburban or rural/ranch home. An Aussie is not going to make a good apartment dog.

Some of our FAVORITE toys to keep Aussies busy!

Tennis Balls, Frisbees, Flexible Flyer Discs, Kongs, Squeekee Toys, Rawhide Chews

A well trained Aussie is a happy Aussie! Please consider obedience classes for your puppy!

Australian Shepherds can tolerate both hot and cool temperatures but should not live outdoors completely. The ideal living arrangement is to allow the Aussie to have access to a safe outdoors area during the day and to sleep inside with the family at night. A large fenced yard or secure kennel will be needed for your Aussie. Aussies take to crate training indoors very easily and we suggest using crate training from puppy stage on up.

Please take your Aussie the vet regularly for yearly vaccinations & check ups. When you pick up your puppy you will receive his current health record listing the vaccinations he has had. Follow your vets recommendations for a vaccination schedule for your puppy.

We suggest seasonal dosages of a heartworm preventative that does NOT contain Ivermectin.

A safe heartworm preventative for Aussies is Interceptor  or Sentinel  – aussies can have a serious bad reaction to other heartworm medications. We suggest using Interceptor during the summer and fall months of the year. We suggest starting puppies on Sentinel at 12 weeks of age. You will need to get this from your Vet or a prescription from your vet and fill it online ( drsfosterandsmith.com is a great source online ) Give monthly during all misquito months of the year. Please request that no products containing Ivermectin ever be used on your dog as it can seriously effect herding breeds.

We would love for you to keep in touch with pictures and
stories about your Aussie! Please email us often at donna@skyblueaussies.com

We are located in central Nebraska. If you are interested in adopting one of our puppies we can arrange to meet anywhere in Nebraska and the surrounding states depending on distance or you can come visit us at the ranch.
We encourage you to visit us and pick up your puppy!

Due to USDA guidelines we do NOT fly puppies via air delivery -
we meet all of our puppy buyers IN PERSON.
You are free to fly here and take your puppy home as a "carry on" !

Each puppy comes with a health guarantee and a Sky Blue Aussies Pedigree. Your puppy will be current on vaccinations and dewormings and will be vet checked and health certified. We do not release our puppies to their new owners until 8 to 10 weeks of age. Breeding rights are available on select puppies only if we feel they will be going to a small / hobby breeder like us – We absolutely will not sell to a large kennel/facility.

We do screen new owners to make sure our puppies are going to a good home so expect to answer a few questions about where your puppy will live, what you plan to do with your puppy etc. Our dogs are a part of our family and our puppies are well socialized and spoiled rotten while they are here on the ranch. Puppies will be exposed to lots of play with children, other dogs, cats and more! We give our puppies tons of attention and love and it shows in their confident and outgoing attitudes! You will not find a timid, scared puppy on our ranch! Some of our adult dogs are working dogs who love to herd. Some of them love to play frisbee or ball – others are training for agility. Your puppy could be shown, trained to work, compete in agility or just be a loving lifelong family pet… or all of the above!

A well trained Aussie is a happy Aussie!
Please consider obedience classes for your puppy!
